Fármacos

You just keep me hanging on

—Lou Reed

Me mantienes abrigado

y tu beso me da alivio

“You just keep me hanging on”
—Lou Reed

My numb vision of a summer
hidden by desire
turned all rivers into a wasteland,
into a blackened landscape.
I was no longer in control.

All that remained were the echoes of voices
resounding in the depths of my veins
torn apart by a scream.
Where am I, between sleep and the edge?
The darkness devours my fever.

I wanted to see myself in the mirror
and the mirror reflected a funeral,
and the funeral, a shadow,
and the shadow bloodied,
bloodied before the edge of the blade.

When I gave myself to you
there was no laughter or lamentation:
weariness settled on my weak eyelids
drowned in the twilight of tears.
Your moist and fragile body

on the tip of my sad tongue
quenches my thirst,
destroys the sensations of my flesh
and allows me to surrender to the silence
of this night without murmurs.

What will remain of me when I awaken?
Terror in the face of the coldness of the morning?
The demons will fall silent
and only your sweet, sweet rain will remain.
You will keep me warm

and your kiss will give me relief
to fall asleep,
to dream of a still moon, without fears.
Stars will fade away,
my violent soul will surrender

before the gaze of empty hours,
of hours that break before the sunlight
of the noisy dawn.
At dawn, I forget my song
transformed into the breaking of an echo,

into a chiaroscuro mantle of ink
that shelters the lascivious latency
of a voice that has already given up.
The shadows in my brain
will not sacrifice me to the dawn.
