She

She approached the unknown door and nervously took the key from her pocket. She breathed, opened the deadbolt with the key, and stopped. Then she pushed the door and to her horror she found an empty room. She had ended her illusion of finding the solution to her hopelessness. "You will find the answer to your weaknesses," the woman had told her when she decided to embark on the adventure. She wanted to escape boredom, have a change of scenery, get away from the constant criticism of her mother, her siblings, and the community. She had sold everything she had, she had spent the night with that man in the tavern in exchange for the key, hoping to find the answers to all her questions. Finally, there was nothing, just a void, dust, and at the end of the room a small window. She sighed; she had nothing left to do. She came to the window and looked out. She was able to understand. The view from there was peculiar, you could see the cemetery on the left side, followed by the city, and finally the sunset over the coast. She understood! The transience of life! That was her strength and weakness. She was mortal. One day she would die and when that happened, nothing would matter. Not her fights, not the criticism, not her adventure, not the key. She waited until she saw the sun completely set. She threw the key out of the window, walked away, walked out. She closed the door.
